Psychoeducational groups utilize techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to provide education about mental health topics and to teach essential life skills. These groups focus on problem-solving, improving communication, assertiveness training, developing mindfulness, and prioritizing self-care.

Getting Unstuck is a a six-week psychoeducational therapy group for healthcare workers! Participants will practice solutions-focused approaches to managing common emotional consequences of healthcare work, including moral distress, compassion fatigue, and burnout. Participants will work together to develop assertive communication, boundary setting, and self-care skills. Total cost per attendee for the 6-week course: $150.

Define compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue, and burnout

Understand moral distress and its prevalence in healthcare workers

Recognize risk factors for moral distress, compassion fatigue and burnout

Encourage development of balanced self-concept and identity

Discuss mindfulness techniques and their benefits

Identify practical self-care solutions

Develop strong professional boundaries

Practice assertiveness and professional communication skills

Construct personal action plans surrounding self-care and targeted change

Attendance is limited to those aged 19 years or older

All medical professionals and paraprofessional healthcare workers welcome to apply

Eligible participants will undergo a brief, confidential screening process prior to selection

Commitment to attending each of the six weekly sessions is strongly encouraged

Prepared by Lauren S. Grider, DVM, MA(CMCH), ALC, NCC, CCFP. Lauren is both a therapist and a veterinarian. As an Associate Licensed Counselor in the state of Alabama, Lauren is clinically supervised by Jane Sweeney, LPC-S.
